New Delhi, Jul 27: Lok Sabha passed the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and management Bill 2021. The Bill was unanimously passed by the Lok Sabha today. It has been already cleared by the Rajya Sabha on 15th March this year. Under this Bill, 2 educational institutes of India, namely National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship & Management (NIFTEM), Kundli (Haryana) ,and Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), Thanjavur(Tamil Nadu) became Institutes of National Importance (INI). INI is the status given to premier higher educational institutes of a country by the central government.
Briefing the media about this, Union Minister of Food Processing Industry, Pashupati Kumar Paras, said that the Bill will give these institutes greater autonomy so that they can start new and innovative courses, attract excellent faculty and students, and adopt global standards in academic and research work. He also said that now they can open new centers anywhere in the country and abroad. This will further facilitate the creation of skilled manpower.
