NIRF is India’s own ranking mechanism for educational institutions. The rankings are released every year.
This year (2024), 10,845 higher educational institutions were evaluated. These included 1,463 engineering colleges, 3,371 colleges, 182 medical schools, and 12 Open Universities. (table below)
This year, the top educational institutions (overall) are:
IIT Guwahati is remarkable because it is one of the newer IITs. Manipal Academy is the topmost private university in this list.

10 out of the top 20 colleges – 50% are in Delhi and come under Delhi University.

The Innovative Institutions List
Nine out of the top 10 innovative institutions are IITs and IISc. IIT Mandi is a relatively new IIT and its presence in this list is noticeable.
Top 20 Management Institutions
While IIMs have traditionally been the leaders in management education, IITs, IIFT, Symbiosis, and IIM Rohtak are some names worth mentioning.
Top 10 Architecture Colleges
SPA, once the undisputed leader in architecture education, finds itself at No. 5, while the tech institutions are found to dominate this list as well.
Top 20 Law Schools
No surprises in this list – National Law School, Nalsar, and NLU retain the top positions in this list.
Top 20 Medical colleges
All the top entries in this list are also as expected. We noticed that while the newer IIMs and IITs have made their own place, the newer AIIMS are yet to enter the top 10 in the list.
