News from Space

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope recently captured a big, beautiful, and blue galaxy, stretching over 2,00,000 light years, 100 million light years away. Galaxy NGC 2336 is a lot like the Milky way with its planetary distribution and chromatic (relating to colours) features.

First-ever space hurricane (a huge, funnel-like, geomagnetic storm) was detected over the North Pole. It was a violent storm that went on for over 8 hours but instead of raining water, it rained electrons over the Earth’s upper atmosphere.

NASA’s successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, is ready to be launched in the late 2021. Hubble was launched in 1990 and was designed with a mission lifetime of 15 years. It is however nowhere near retirement. Hubble celebrated its 30 years in space in 2020. The Hubble Space Telescope has been instrumental in our understanding of space and beyond.
