New Chairperson of the Railway Board: Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha

Ms. Jaya Verma Sinha was appointed as the CEO and Chairperson of the Railway Board in India by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

She will hold this position from September 1, 2023, until her retirement. From September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2024, is her tenure. There’s a chance she might be re-employed in the same role starting on September 1, 2024, based on standard terms or until further notice. She’s had a long and successful career with Indian Railways, advancing through the ranks.

Ms. Sinha is a graduate of Allahabad University. She began her career in the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988 and has worked in various railway regions, including Northern Railway, South-Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway. She also served at the Centre for Railway Electrification (CORE). Today, she holds one of the most significant positions in the entire Indian railway system.

The Railway Board is the governing body responsible for making important decisions, planning railway routes, managing budgets, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of trains throughout India. It plays a key role in the country’s transportation network.

Responsibilities as CEO & Chairperson

In her new role, Jaya Verma Sinha has many responsibilities. She is tasked with ensuring the safety of passengers, maintaining punctuality in train schedules, and modernizing the railway system. It’s like ensuring a huge train moves smoothly on its rails.
