Navy inducts three Advanced Light Helicopters Report by Anirudh Bhargava

Delhi, Jun 9: Three Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) MK III were inducted into the Indian Navy at INS Dega, a naval air station under the Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam on June 7th, 2021. The helicopters have been made in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). HAL is a company owned by the Government of India. It was founded in 1940 and has been making aircrafts for India’s defence and civil sectors.

These maritime reconnaissance (military observation of the sea) and coastal security helicopters have modern surveillance radar and electro-optical equipment to make them active by both day and night. They have a machine gun for constabulary (non-wartime) missions and an in-built removable Intensive Care Unit to airlift ill patients. In short, these helicopters will do many things for the Navy – help them keep an eye on the coast, take part in emergency search and rescue missions, etc. Commander SS Dash is the first flight commander of these all-weather aircraft fitted with advanced electronic equipment.
