On December 1st every year, Nagaland celebrates its Statehood Day. Nagaland became a state in 1963. Every year, from December 1 to 10, the Hornbill Festival is held to celebrate the unique culture of Nagaland.
Though the state bird of Nagaland is Blyth’s tragopan, the hornbill has cultural importance and the state’s most important cultural and tourism festival is named after the hornbill.
Last year, the festival was held virtually because of Covid restrictions. The physical festival started this year. It is also being live streamed on Youtube.
The festival is being held at the Kisama village.
The festival has something for everyone – craft, music, dances, adventure activities, and cultural performances.
The Hornbill festival is the biggest tourist event in Nagaland, which is home to at least 16 distinct tribes and many sub-tribes.
The festival will end on December 10th.
