In April, Mr. Abdul Hamid, who is currently the longest-serving President of Bangladesh, retired in April 2023. According to law, he cannot enjoy a third term as President.
In February 2023, presidential elections were announced in Bangladesh. Only one candidate filed nomination papers – Mr. Shahabuddin Chuppu. He is the nominee of the ruling Awami League party.

The speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury administered the Oath of Office to the President on Monday, 24th April.
