Golf ball hit on moon in 1971 was rediscovered!
USA, Feb 14: Commander Alan Shepard of the Apollo 14 moon mission had a curious idea – of playing golf on the moon’s surface. On February 6, 1971, during the time that he was on the lunar surface, he hit a golf ball that travelled 24 yards. Cdr. Shepard recovered it. He then threw his second ball. This ball flew far away and he could not locate it. That ball then remained missing for more than half a century. Recently, while remastering images taken during the 1971 mission to the moon, scientists were surprised to
see the lost golf ball about 40 yards from where it was hit. The full astronaut suit with helmet and gloves and hitting it one-handed made the ball move a short distance even though the gravity on the moon is lower than on earth.
