Lucapa Diamond Company Limited, Endiama E.P. and Rosas & Petalas have discovered a pink diamond from the Lulo alluvial mine in Angola (an African country).
This pink diamond is estimated to weigh 170 carats. The next largest is the Daria-i-Noor diamond which is 182-carats.
Daria-i-Noor diamond is the largest pink diamond in the world, which today is part of the Iranian National Jewels.
Pink diamonds are very rare diamonds.
The new diamond has been given the name ‘The Lulo Rose’.
This is so because of the Lulo mine in northeastern Angola which is its discovery place. This pink diamond is the fifth largest diamond and 27th diamond with a weight above 100 carats uncovered in the Lulo mines.
The diamond will be sold via an international tender to be conducted by Sodiam E.P, the Angolan State Diamond Marketing Company.
How are diamonds formed?
Diamonds are formed deep inside the ground nearly 100 miles /160 kilometers.
They are formed when carbon deposits are exposed to the extreme heat and temperatures of the inner Earth.
