Pets come under the municipal jurisdiction in India.
It is mandatory to register our pet with the municipal authority in India.
The registration charges are minimal.
While the registration fees varies from city to city, the rest of the procedure is fairly uniform.
An application needs to be made to the local municipal authority.
The application should include:
A. Name, address, and contact information of the owner.
B. The name and photos of the pet.
C. If you have bought the dog though a registered breeder of the Kennel Club of India, you would have a transfer of ownership certificate. This certificate is required, but some cities allow registration without this certificate also.
D. Proof of vaccination up to that point.
The proof of vaccination needs to be updated every year at renewal.
The Municipal body will issue a metal id badge to the pet owner and an ownership certificate. This is the identity proof for the pet.
All dog shows require this registration certificate.
If a pet owner does not register their pet, they can be fined by the municipal authority.
A pet parent can find many resources online to help them do this registration.
