LCA’s 2nd production line inaugurated

Will strengthen India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative

Bengaluru, Feb 2: Defence minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 2nd production line for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) ‘Tejas’. The aircraft would be manufactured by the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force (IAF), in Bengaluru. This will give a boost in making India self-reliant, and strengthen the defence system of the country. A lot of other countries have also expressed interest in buying these indigenous (home grown) Tejas Mark 1A jets.

HAL has also received an order worth Rupees 48,000 crore from the Indian armed forces for procuring 73 Tejas Mk 1A variants, and 10 LCA Tejas Mk-1 trainer aircrafts. Annually, there is expected to be a roll out of 16 aircraft, until the completion of the total delivery of the 83 indigenous fighter jets.

Tejas is an Indian made supersonic fighter jet. It came from the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) programme, which began in the 1980s to replace India’s ageing MiG-21 fighters.
