Kolkata, Jul 20: Ahead of Tokyo 2020, Kolkata’s iconic Howrah Bridge was lit up in Olympic colours to boost morale and show support to the athletes. The games are scheduled to be held from 23rdJuly to 8th Aug. 127 athletes from the Indian contingent are expected to participate. Indian sportspersons will be participating in 18 disciplines viz., Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Badminton, Equestrian, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Rowing, Shooting, Sailing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. The 69 cumulative events across the 18 sport disciplines that India will participate in are also the highest ever for the country.
The 5 rings of the Olympic symbol epitomise the union of Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia.
