King Chilli from Nagaland exported to London for the first time

Nagaland, Jul 31: ‘Bhut Jolokia’, also known as ‘Raja Mircha’, is one of the hottest chillies in the
world. The way to measure how ‘hot’ a variety of chilli is called Scoville Heat Units (SHUs). On this
scale, the Bhoot Jolokia/ Raja Mircha is the hottest chilli variety in the world.
In 2008, this variety of chilli got the GI (Geographical Indicator) tag. This means that only if it is
grown in Nagaland and belongs to this variety, can the chilli be called Raja Mircha/ Bhoot Jolokia.
On Wednesday, the first consignment (batch) of this chilli was exported from Nagaland to London.
The 250 kg shipment of king chillies was sourced from Tening, a part of Peren district in Nagaland
and was packed at APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority)
assisted packhouse at Guwahati.
