The director-general of World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, recently announced the UN Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) award. This is an award given to states or countries in recognition of their achievements in the areas of control and prevention of non- communicable diseases (NCDs), mental health and sustainable development goals (SDGs) related to NCDs.
Kerala has won this coveted annual award for the first time, as an acknowledgement for its ‘outstanding contribution’ towards the NCD related SDGs. It is among the 7 Ministries of health across the world. Health Minister of Kerala, KK Shailaja congratulated all the health workers of the state for this achievement and said that this award was a recognition of the tireless service of Kerala in the health sector.
