Guwahati, Aug 14: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam has two-thirds of world’s total one – horned rhinoceros population and other animals including tigers, elephants, wild water buffaloes, and swamp deer. Kaziranga has become the first ever national park in India to be equipped with satellite phones (draw signals from the satellites
instead of mobile towers and ensures connectivity in most of the remote locations). The Assam government handed over 10 satellite phones to the forest personnel at a cost of 16 lakh rupees. Satellite phones help in coordinating the various functions of the park and assist the forest personnel to prevent poaching. It will also be helpful during emergency situations like floods to save the wildlife and environment. BSNL will be the service provider. It has also trained the forest personnel to operate phones in shadow areas where mobile phones do not function.
