Jordan Stolz becomes world’s youngest Speed skating champion

Jordan Stolz (USA) became the youngest person to win the Single Distance World Speed Skating Championship on Friday, 3rd March.

As the weekend progressed, he won two more gold medals in the 1,000 meters and 1,500 meters category. 

With this, Jordan became the first person to win three individual gold medals at single distance world championship and 3rd speed skater to win both senior and junior World title in the same season after Eric Heiden (1977&1978) and Beth Heiden (1979). 

About World Cup skating championship

ISO world cup skating is a series of International Speed Championship, which takes place annually, across North America, Europe and Asia .

The series started in 1985 and usually consists of 6 or 7 events . The popularity of the world cup skating is mainly due to creation of World Single Distance Championship which has been added since 1996. 

The 2023, World Single Distance Speed Skating Championship were held from 2-5 March 2023 at Thaiaef in Heerenveen , Netherlands. 

About Jordan Stolz

Jordan Stolz was born in West Bend, Wisconsin and was inspired to pursue skating at an early age after watching American phenoms Apolo Ohno and Shani Davis succeed at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. With the help of his father, Dirk Stolz, Jordan began to skate on the frozen pond in his family’s backyard at just five years old. By the time he was in fifth grade, Stolz was winning national championships. In high school, he went to school online so that he could train for up to six hours a day.
