Jacinda Arden announces retirement

The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Ms. Jacinda Arden, today announced that she would be stepping down as the Prime Minister of New Zealand on February 7th.

No succession plan has been announced by her party so far.

New Zealand’s next elections are scheduled for October 2023.

International leaders have responded to the announcement with praise for the work that Ms. Arden has done as the Premier of New Zealand.

Meanwhile, some people are indicating that this resignation is to avoid trials related to the mismanagement of the Covid 19 pandemic by New Zealand.

New Zealand’s strict lockdown also meant that economic activity in the country was severely affected. This led to problems for many citizens.
