Israel is at war

On Sunday morning local time (October 7th, 2023), Israel was surprised by heavy drone attacks from Hamas – an armed group operating in Palestine.

Over 2000 rockets were fired on Israel. Hamas also used drones to bomb civilians, ambulances, and other non-military targets in Israel. Southern Israel was the worst affected.

Hamas fighters also entered Israel and hurt civilians on the ground. About 500 civilians have been taken hostage by Hamas.

Usually, even in a war situation, civilians are not hurt. To the extent possible, the two sides try to attack only military establishments.

This is a day of a religious festival in Israel, so this attack was even more surprising.

The local conflict between Israel and Palestine is decades old. However, both sides have co-existed for a long time. Hamas has never launched an attack at this scale.

Within hours, the Israeli Defence Forces started a response.

At this time, Israel is defending itself. The country has declared an official state of war.

India, Britain, Italy, Ukraine, and the US have declared support to Israel.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Turkey, and Iran have declared support to Hamas. In Iran, Turkey, Lebanon, and Bahrain, there were public gatherings to celebrate the Palestinian attack.
