The research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department has developed India’s first pollinator (animal/insect which helps to transfer pollen) park with more than 40 species of butterflies, honeybees, birds, and insects, at Haldwani. This colorful park is spread across 4 acres of land. It has been created with the aim to conserve various pollinator species and to create awareness among people about the criticality of conservation of such species. This would also help the researchers to study the various aspects of pollination, the threat to their habitat, and the impact of pollution on these pollinators. To help and attract the pollinators, a conducive environment has been created in the park. Small water bodies have been created for mud puddling of butterflies which provides them certain nutrients. Nectar plants like marigold and rose plants for attracting honeybees and butterflies. Cut fruits are also placed to attract certain butterfly species. Bird feeders with food grains and nests are placed for birds. Pollinators are extremely important for nature as approx. 75% to 95% of all flowering plants on the earth need pollinators to reproduce.
