North Island, July 19: The Indian Navy inducted two Sikorsky MH-60 Romeo multi-role helicopters from the US Navy on 16th July 2021. The ceremony was held at the Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego.
The Indian representative in the USA, Taranjit Singh Sandhu received the helicopters on behalf of India. They are manufactured by Lockheed Martin Corporation and are all- weather approved. They are designed to support multiple missions with new and advanced sensors and technology. These will further enhance Indian Navy’s capabilities. 24 more of these helicopters are being procured under the Foreign Military Sales. The estimated cost of procuring 24 helicopters is around $2.4 billion.
The Indian Navy plans to modify these copters with indigenous equipment and weapons. The first batch of Indian Navy crew is undergoing training in the USA to understand the full functioning of these helicopters.
