The Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, biennially (taking place every other year) organizes an initiative to identify the young leaders (18 – 29 years) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
This is the office’s highest profile recognition opportunity for the young leaders who are working towards creating a more sustainable and better environment for the future generations.
In its 75th anniversary year, the UN announced the cohort (a group of people with a shared characteristics) of 17 young leaders for SDG.
Udit Singhal, an 18 year old Indian teenager, has been added in this prestigious group for his contribution to the environment through his initiative Glass2Sand.
This project focuses on reducing the growing hazards of glass waste in Delhi. So far, he has managed to stop over 8000 bottles from being dumped in landfills and converted them into 4,815 kgs of high-grade silica sand.
This group of young leaders from various countries would now come together to collectively work towards encouraging youth to participate in the mission of SDG. They shall do so via their current platforms, initiatives, and UN shall also provide them strategic opportunities.
Congratulations Udit!
