Most people use an internet based messaging app like Whatsapp or Signal to send instant messages to each other.
But organisations might not be able to use these freely available apps because their data needs to be protected.
However, instant messaging is an important form of communication today and is needed.
The Indian Army has created its own messaging application. Its called ASIGMA – Army Secure IndiGeneous Messaging Application.
Before this, the Indian Army had another in-house messaging solution called the AWAN – Army Wide Area Network. This application has been in use for 15 years. That solution is now being replaced with this new application.
This app will allow personnel of the Indian Army to transfer data and messages quickly. It has been developed by the Corps of Signals (Indian Army).
The app will only be available to Indian Army users.
