West Bengal, July 28: The Indian Air force (IAF) initiated the Rafale fighter jets into the 101 squadron of the Eastern Air Command (EAC) at the Hasimara Air Base located in West Bengal on 28th July. The induction of the Rafale jets started with a flypast (group of flights fly in a special formation) to announce the arrival of the fighter jets to the Hasimara Air Base. This was followed by a water cannon salute. The inauguration was made in the presence of Air Chief Marshal R.K.S Bhadauria.
The 101 squadron is a fighter squadron, stocked with Rafale fighter jets and is the second squadron within the IAF to be stocked with Rafale fighter jets, the first squadron being the Golden Arrows squadron. The Rafale fighter jets were made part of the 101 squadron to fortify the IAF’s potentiality in the eastern sector. The Rafale jets are made by French aerospace company Dassault Aviation. These jets are known for their superiority in air and precise strikes. The first set of Rafale jets arrived in India on 29th July 2020.
