India wins Thomas Cup (Badminton) Finals for the first time ever

The Indian men’s badminton team beat Indonesia (14 time winners) to win the Thomas Cup for the first time. The 32nd edition of the Cup took place in Bangkok, Thailand. The Mascot for the Thomas Cup was Theva’.

In the first game, Lakshya Sen lost the first round 21-8. He won the second and the third rounds 21-17 and 21-16. Lakshya Sen gave India a lead of 1-0 by beating Anthony Ginting.

In the second game, Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty played against Mohammad Ahsan and Kevin Sukmuljo. Satwik and Chirag lost the first round to Ahsan and Kevin: 18 to 21. Satwik and Chirag won the next 2 rounds 23-21 and 21-19. This gave India a lead of 2-0 lead against Indonesia.

In the third game Kidambi Srikanth defeated Christie, making it 6 on 6 wins for him and the Thomas Cup for India. The scores of the third game were 21-15 and 23-22.

India won the quarter-finals against Malaysia and the semi-finals against Denmark.
