India enters Guinness Book for waving over 78,000 national flags

 India has set the world record for simultaneously waving 78,220 national flags. The achievement was recorded on April 23, 2022.

The event took place at Dular Ground in Jagdishpur, Bihar to pay tribute to the victory of Veer Kunwar Singh, the then King of Jagdishpur who is considered as one of the heroes of the freedom struggle of 1857. 

The tricolours were waved at the event organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Culture under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav program (the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence).

Together with thousands of people gathered, they raised the tricolour for 5 minutes and sang the national song “Vande Mataram”

The record was created in the presence of representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records and attendees were asked to wear bands for physical identification.

About Veer Kunwar Singh

Veer Kunwar Singh or popularly known as Veer Babu Kunwar Singh was born on 13 November 1777 in Jagdispur, (which is currently part of Bhojpur district), Bihar. He was a great social reformer and a prominent leader of the Indian Freedom struggle of 1857. He was chief organiser of the battle against the British from Bihar. Kunwar Singh fought his last battle on 23 April 1858 and died in the service of the nation after taking down the British flag from Jagdishpur Fort.
