India becomes the sixth country in the world to have its own Train Management System

If you have ever played with toy train sets, you know how hard it is to manage the various trains on more than one track.

Now, imagine these trains on multiple tracks, at multiple times, avoiding each other, criss-crossing the same tracks and never once colliding or slowing each other down. Complex, isn’t it?

Which is why detailed and complex computer programs called Automated Train Supervision Systems are used to control the movement of trains.

On Saturday, 18th February, India became the sixth country in the world to have developed an automated Train Supervision system called iATS – Indigenous Automated Train Supervision System.

The system was developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

After testing, the system was deployed (put to use) on the first corridor – Red Line (Rithala to Martyr Sthal).

The other countries that have their own ATS are China, France, Japan, Germany, and Canada.
