Important Nature and Climate Events in July 2022

This is a roundup of the important climate and natural events that happened around the world in July 2022. Some of these are continuing well into August 2022.

Floods in Kentucky, USA

Massive floods that left houses submerged and people missing, occured in the American state of Kentucky. The floods were caused by unexpected heavy rainfall.

The image below is of a 17 year old who got to the roof of her house and waited there for 5 hours to be rescued.

Heat Wave in the UK and most of Europe

July 2022 saw a heatwave that saw temperatures rising to  40.3 °C (104.5 °F) – the highest ever temperature in UK’s recorded history.

On the human side, roads melted, offices and schools shut down, and people were advised to remain indoors.

This has also been one of the driest years for the UK.

California Wildfires

Wildfires are a regular annual occurrence in California (USA). The weather is dry, leading to wildfires in summer.

This year also, California saw its wildfires.

As of Sunday afternoon, these wildfires were reported in about 51,000 acres of land.

Floods in Northeast India

NorthEast India also sees an annual flooding. The state of Assam was the most affected this year. Relief and rescue work has been going on.

Earthquake in Phillipenes

On July 2727th, 0843 hours local time, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake took place in the mountainous province of Abra in Northern Philippines. The image is from Relief Web.
