IIT Ropar develops ‘AmbiTAG’

Records real-time ambient temperature

Chandigarh June 1: IIT Ropar (Punjab) has successfully developed AmbiTAG- India’s first indigenous temperature data logger. It records the real time temperature of any object which is getting transported from one place to another. This development will help in keeping a check on goods that may decay if not kept at a certain temperature. This IoT device could be used in secure transportation of vaccines, blood and body organs, perishable products (food and dairy), etc.

It is shaped like a USB and can record temperatures between the range -40 to +80 degrees Celsius. On charging the device once, it works for 90 days. It generates an alert when the temperature goes beyond the set range. It also has inbuilt features like logging intervals, time zone, and alarms. One can receive the recorded data by plugging it to any computer. IoT stands for Internet of Things. It is a network of devices with sensors and software that can exchange data and information through the internet.

“So far, such devices are being imported by India in a massive quantity from other countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Ireland, and China,” said Amit Bhatti, one of the founders and directors of ScratchNest. AmbiTAG has been developed under IIT Ropar Technology (Agriculture Development ScratchNest is a startup founded by four IIT Ropar students. Innovation Hub- AWaDH and Water Technology Hub), and ScratchNest.

AmbiTag is a certified device priced below ₹1000.
