Delhi, Jul 28: The National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP) is a policy document (a document that tells us what our overall approach towards a topic should be) that tries to revamp India’s education system.
One of the pillars of NEP 2020 is interdisciplinary education. This means that a student should be able to take subjects from arts, commerce, or science streams, according to their interest.
In the current Indian system, this is very difficult because academic degrees are based on the stream – Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.
IIT Delhi has proactively taken the following steps to align itself to the new education policy.
- Creation of a new department: Department of Energy Science and Engineering.
- Opening of interdisciplinary schools and departments in recent years: School of Public Policy, School of Artificial Intelligence, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and theDepartment of Design.
- Introduction of two new multidisciplinary programs at the PG level: M. Tech. in ElectricMobility, and Master of Public Policy. The M. Tech in Electrical Mobility program was launched today.
