Have you ever wanted to be friends with children like yourself, but from other countries? Ever wondered what they eat, wear? What are the festivals that they celebrate, and what mom and dad are called in their language? How many languages can they speak? What kind of games do they play? What kind of toys are popular? What do they do to kill time? What are their favourite places to visit in their country? What do they do in the summer/winter holidays? Do they visit grandparents? Go to summer school? Maybe a camp?
If you have always wondered and never known, this is just the perfect thing for you.
What is the ISCE?
The ISCE is the dream child of Rotary District 3190.
This is a specially created 9 week program.
Its a simple 2 hour session every weekend.
The program is co-created by the Rotary Club and The Children’s Post.
12-18 year old selected participants will be organised into groups of 8 each.
Every week, one participant will showcase the culture of their country. This should include their festivals, dresses, games, everyday life, etc.
After 8 weeks, the team collaborates to make a creative product. This can be a virtual play, a song and dance fusion, a set of cartoons about their lives, jokes from each country, common story threads, or anything at all. Even a story that has been written by all 8 participants, where at least one element of their culture is visible. Anything works. Just use your imagination and have fun!
This creative output is shared with the entire program – all the groups come together for this show.
While there is no contest, groups that do well might get some surprise gifts from the senior members who will be present.
Participants can stay in touch with their international friends and keep the journey going.
How this works
- There is NO FEE for registering for the program.
- Selection is through a form that the participant needs to fill up on their own. The form is likely to take about 15-20 minutes, so please budget for that much time.
- Selected participants will be informed through this website. Please check here on result day.
- The participants will be assigned to a group.
- The program continues for 9 weeks (2 hours per week). 🙂 Make international friends and have fun doing it!
