Honduras is a country in Central America. It has elected a new president – Xiomara Castro. She was elected in the presidential elections held on November 28, 2021. The final counting of the votes will take some time because the vote counting from rural areas is slow. However, over 52% of the votes have been counted and Ms. Castro has a clear lead. Accordingly, the leader of the Opposition party, and the United States have officially congratulated Ms. Castro.
Xiomara Castro or Iris Xiomara Castro Sarmiento is a Honduran politician belonging to the party of Libre since 2011 and fought her first presidential election in 2013, then again in 2017. She has also been the first Lady of Honduras (a term given to wife of President of Honduras) between 2006 and 2009.
