9th December marks the birthday of Ms. Homi Vyarawalla.
She started photojournalism in 1938, just as the second world war was starting. This made her India’s first lady photojournalist.
She was an alumna of Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai.
She started her work with the Bombay Chronicle, and moved shortly to the national publication – The Illustrated Weekly of India.
In 1942, she joined the British Information Services, and took several noteworthy pictures.
During her lifetime, she donated her work to the Alkazi Foundation.
We bring you a short collection of her photographs. All rights with the Alkazi Foundation.
