Hockey: Asian Champions Trophy 2023

Chennai, India: The 13th edition of the Asian Champions Trophy Hockey concluded on 12th August, 2023, with India beating Malaysia in the final match, to win the gold medal. All the matches were held at Major Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai.

1.     The championship began with India defeating China with the score of 7- 2 and moving to the next round.

2.     In the next round India defeated Malaysia with a score of 5-0.

3.     In the pre-quarter finals, they were playing against South Korea and defeated them by a score of 3-2. India defeated South Korea in a hockey match after 5 years.

4.     In the quarter finals India beat Pakistan 4-0 and advanced to the semi-finals.

5.     India was competing against Japan and defeated them by a result of 5-0 in the semi-finals. Coincidentally this match was also the 300 international match of PR Sreejesh, Indian hockey team’s goalkeeper.

6. Malaysia beach South Korea 6 2 2 in the semi-final match. Both the teams qualified for the final match.

6.     In the final match India was at 1-3 at half time. They needed three goals to win the match. India made a comeback and won the Asian Champions Trophy. The goal scorers for India in the final were Jugraj Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Gujrant Singh, and Akashdeep Singh.

The championship concluded with India being ranked 1st, 2nd was Malaysia, and 3rd was Japan. At number 4 we had South Korea, Pakistan finished 5th, while China was at the 6th (last) position.
