New Delhi, Feb 2: ‘Atmanirbharta’, meaning self- reliance, was added to the Oxford dictionary and named as ‘Hindi word of the year 2020’. At the time of the lockdown Prime Minister Modi had spoken about making the country self-reliant in every field and this was the vision for giving India a strong foundation for the future.
The latest edition (10th) of the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary features 22 new Indian English words in print, and 4 in the digital version. Some of them are aadhaar, chawl, dabba, auntie, tube light, hartal, and shaadi. This edition of the dictionary had 384 Indian English words.
