Hello, Monsoon!

Delhi, Jun 2: As you may know, the south-west monsoon enters India from Kerala. This usually happens between May 28 – June 1, though the official date for the onset of monsoon is June 1.

This year, the Indian Meteorological Department predicts a normal monsoon, which is likely to start today (June 3rd)!

The arrival of monsoon is an important event in a country like India. In the rural areas, monsoons irrigate almost two-thirds (66%) of the crops.

In urban areas, monsoons refill the reservoirs (giant storage areas) which provide us with water all through the years. Monsoons also replenish the rain-fed river system of South India. The weather department has also predicted that the country is not likely to have a heat wave this year.
