Depression formed in Bay of Bengal now crossing the peninsula towards Maharashtra.
One week ago, a depression started forming in the Bay of Bengal.
A depression is a low-pressure area that moves from west to east in the northern hemisphere. Typically, the depression carries more and more water as it passes over the sea. Sometimes, it becomes strong enough to become a cyclone. However, when it reaches the land, all the water picked up from the sea falls as heavy rains on the land.
This depression was not given a name. However, on Tuesday, it reached Telangana, and caused heavy rains in many parts of the state. Hyderabad is the capital of Telangana. Hyderabad saw rains for 24 hours. Within 24 hours, the city got 191.8 mm of rain.
Rains are likely to continue today as well. The depression is now moving towards Maharashtra. Offices and schools are shut in the area.
