Budget all set for Feb 1st via paperless format
India, Jan 23: Every year the Indian government follows a sweet tradition – Halwa ceremony hosted by the Finance Minister, currently Nirmala Sitharaman, few days before the budget is announced.
- This ritual is attended by the Finance Minister, secretaries, clerks, and officers in the Budget division.
- Halwa is prepared in a big pot and served to the entire staff in Finance Ministry in recognition of their efforts.
- They are locked in the Budget press till the speech is completed with absolutely no access to the outside world.
- The Budget documents will now be published online so that the lawmakers and other government officers can access it.
The Budget preparation process takes about 10 days and almost 100 officials are involved. They are also prohibited to use mobile phones. So, a process like this is formed to maintain secrecy as Budget information is top secret and not supposed to be leaked. So, shhh….
