Haiderpur becomes India’s 47th Ramsar site

The Haiderpur wetland is located about 10 kilometres from Bijnor on the Muzaffarnagar-Bijnor border in Uttar Pradesh. It was formed in 1984 utilising 6,908 hectares of the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary at the Madhya Ganga Barrage near the junction of the Solani and Ganga rivers.

The Haiderpur Wetland became India’s 47th Ramsar site. A Ramsar site is a wetland region
that has been designated by UNESCO under the Ramsar Convention, which was held in Ramsar, Iran, in 1971. Its main aim is to promote national action plans and international collaboration to protect wetlands and make sustainable use of their resources. Haiderpur Wetland will be the world’s 2,463rd Ramsar site.
