Govt. Sanctions Permanent Commission to Woman Army Officers

The Defence Ministry has issued a formal letter to grant Permanent Commission to the Short Service Commissioned (SSC) women officers in all 10 streams of the Indian Army – Army Air Defence, Signals, Engineers, Army Aviation, Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, Army Service Corps, Army Ordnance Corps, and Intelligence Corps.

Earlier this year in February, the Supreme Court allowed women officers in the Army to be eligible for command positions on par with male officers, and now this commission to the very same Army women, regardless of their years of service is good news for the nation. ‘The Indian Army is committed to providing equal opportunities to all personnel including women officers to serve the nation. This move paves the way for “empowering women officers to shoulder larger roles” in the Army’, the statement said.

A Permanent Commission means a career in the Army till you retire, it means if you get selected through Permanent Commission entry then you have the option to serve your nation up to the age of retirement which is 60 years as of now.

A Permanent Commission also leads to benefits like pension and lifelong healthcare. It has been a long-standing demand by lady officers.
