Google signs deal with French media to pay for the content

Most of us use Google if we want to search anything on the internet. But where does Google get the data from? Google uses a huge set of computers to fetch billions of pages from all over the internet. For a very long time, Google did not pay any of the websites for fetching data from them, but new laws went into effect in France last year which state that publishers (websites) have to be paid if new stories and webpages are displayed in browser search results.

After negotiating with L’Alliance de la Presse d’Information Générale (APIG), which represents the French media group, Google agreed to pay for the reuse of their content. This is a first-of-its-kind agreement for Google.
