The Google Play store is a familiar place. It is where we go to download apps for our phones. How does an app make it to the Google Play Store? After developing the app, the developer has to register with Google and provide some details about the app. Usually, the app is accepted.
Within the last week, Google did the following:
Mitron was an Indian app which did the same thing as TikTok – the ability to make small, entertaining videos. This app was taken down by Google on June 3. No reasons were given.
Some people have guessed that this was because of the poor security of the app. Mitron had over 50 lakh downloads on the Google Play Store and was in the top 10 apps on the store before it was taken down.
Google deleted millions of negative TikTok reviews on the Play Store. After some bad videos were uploaded on Tiktok, millions of users gave it a poor rating on the Play Store. This reduced the overall rating of the app. The rating of the app went from 4.4 to 1.2! Google then deleted over 80 lakh negative reviews. After that, the app got its rating of 4.4 again.
Another app that became popular very quickly in the last week was ‘Remove China Apps’. In response to China’s aggression on India’s border areas, many Indians used this app to remove Chinese apps from their phones. On June 2nd, with over five million downloads, it became the top free app on the Google App store. On June 3rd, the app was taken down by
the Google Play Store for “deceptive behaviour” because the app declaration said that it was created ‘for educational purposes’.
