Cyclones Senyar and Ditwah hit Southeast Asia this week.
Senyar, which started as a low pressure depression in the Strait of Malacca, affected Indonesia, Thailand, and had some impact in Malaysia as well.
Ditwah was formed in the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone made landfall in Sri Lanka on the night of 28th November. At this time (night of December 1, 2025), the cyclone is on its way to the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is expected to weaken before reaching the state, but heavy rains have been reported in the states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The union territory of Puducherry also reported rains. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala closed schools on December 1 as a pre-emptive measure.
Ditwah led to flash floods in many parts of Sri Lanka. Relief and rescue operations are going on. International aid has also been sent to Sri Lanka.

In Indonesia, Senyar impact at least five provinces. Neighboring Thailand reported at least one thousand people impacted by this weather event. Malaysia (marked in blue in the map below) also reported some minor loss (minor compared to the worst affected countries – Indonesia and Thailand)

Indonesia has declared as state of Emergency. Both Sri Lanka and Indonesia have taken help from their armies to restore basic services like electricity, drinking water, and de-flooding.
