Australia, May 27: A Tasmanian devil is a marsupial living on an island named Tasmania. They are the world’s largest surviving marsupial carnivore. Tasmanian devils decreased in number ultimately on mainland Australia after being hunted down by dingoes (a type of wild dog). They also decreased in number due to facial tumour disease.
Recently, an Australian conservation group, Aussie Ark, introduced 26 adult Tasmanian devils to mainland Australia. The group released these animals into the wild in 2020. These adults produced seven newborn Tasmanian devils.
With new Tasmanian devils being born, the possibility of having a growing population of Tasmanian devils increases, as the newborn Tasmanian devils become adults and can give birth to new ones. As the population increases, the animals may not be endangered anymore.
