Increased exports will enhance incomes of farmers
Delhi, Mar 5: The first consignment of red rice was flagged off on March 4th to the USA. This will give a major boost to India’s rice export potential. The exported iron- rich red rice is grown in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam without the use of any chemical fertilizers. This variety of rice is referred to as bao-dhaan, and is an integral part of Assamese food.
As the exports of red rice increase, incomes of farming families of the Brahmaputra Valley will also increase. The Chairman of APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) Dr. M. Angamuthu did the flagging off ceremony at Sonepat, Haryana.
