Facebook’s AI Chatbot and early results

Facebook has been working on an AI chatbot. In a blog post on August 5th, Meta (the company that owns Facebook) , announced Blenderbot 3.

The company said that the current bot is much better than its earlier versions.

Users in the US were invited to chat with the bot and help train it. Anyone could chat with blenderbot at https://blenderbot.ai.

When we tried to access it from India, we got the error message that Blenderbot.ai is currently US only.

Blenderbot available only in the US

The early reports

The early reports by users are interesting.

According to a Bloomberg report, the chatbot gives inconsistent reports.

And here is an interesting conversation that a Wall Street Reporter had with the chatbot:

What could be the reason?

Let’s understand how chat bots work. They search the internet for information. Then, they use their intelligence to say the same thing in an original way. Most of this search uses keywords that are based on what the human user has entered. So, depending on the user’s own history and the keywords used by them, the AI bot might refer to different sets of information and give different responses. The idea of a chatbot is to keep the chat going, that’s all – only engagement.
