New Delhi, May 6: Millets are gaining popularity since they are highly nutritious and gluten-free. They are unique agricultural products from India which have significant demand in the global market. The first shipment of organic millets grown in Uttarakhand, on the slopes of Himalayas from the snow-melt water of Ganges, would be exported to Denmark. APEDA (Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) along with UKAPMB (Uttarakhand Agriculture Produce Marketing Board) and Just Organik have sourced and processed ragi (finger millet) and jhingora (barnyard millet) from farmers for export, which meets the organic certification standards of the European Union.
The major organic products that are exported include oil cake meal, oil seeds, fruit pulps, millets, spices, tea, medicinal plant products, dry fruits, sugar, pulses, coffee, and essential oils. These are exported to 58 countries around the world. These exports support many farmers who are into organic farming.
