Skydiver’s Maiden Flight Using The Newly Developed Electric Wingsuit

Electric Wingsuit Designed by Skydiver Peter Salzmann with BMW

Chennai, Nov 12: Professional skydiver Peter Salzmann was working on his dream project of an electrified wingsuit which will help him fly in the sky.

He teamed up with BMW, a German Car Company, to design and create it. After three years of work, a successful electric wingsuit was developed. It has a chest mount that holds two propellers (a device that causes an aircraft to move). The propellers deliver a power of 7.5 kilowatts and a speed of around 25,000 rpm (rotations per minute).

There is a thruster on the left sleeve of the suit that boosts the power to hit a speed of 186 miles per hour for five minutes. After successful testing for the maiden flight, Salzmann and two other divers went 10,000 feet high, over the Alps Mountain by helicopter. From there they jumped into the air with the wingsuit and flew in formation. They flew successfully crossing a peak, sliding around the mountains and then landed safely with their parachutes.
