Rajasthan, Sep 11: In one recent discovery, footprints of three different species of dinosaurs were found in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. The footprints appeared to be stone-like made from the sediment of the seashore. It was of three species of dinosaurs named Eubrontes cf.giganteus, Eubrontes glenrosensis, and Grallator tenuis. The footprints of Grallator tenuis were 5.5 cm whereas the other two were 35cm. They estimated the length of the Eubrontes to be 12 to 15 meters and weighed around 500-700 kg. But the length of the Grallator must have been around 3 meters. Virendra Singh Parihar, a team member of the palaeontologists who had done the discovery, told that the footprints were approximately 200 million years old. The dinosaurs belong to the theropod group, with unique features like hollow bones and three digits on each foot. Theropods belong to the early Jurassic period and were carnivorous. This discovery proves the existence of dinosaurs in the western part of Rajasthan, which was once the shore to the Tethys Ocean of the Mesozoic era.
