Today, we present a gallery of street photography by Debaneek Saha, from Kolkata.
What we love about his work is the sharp focus in the images. They are well composed and well executed. Street scenes are usually crowded and it’s hard to get a subject in clear focus. Also, the subjects he has chosen are indicative of larger patterns.
Simple Joys of Life
Sisterhood: This image represents a grooming ritual that is community based. Delicing is done from woman to woman and from mother to children. Grooming rituals play a very important role in trust, communication, and bonding.
The great Ambassadors. They were the sign o royalty and then, of power. Forever, they carried Indian families, before the Hindustan Motor Company shut down production. It is very rare to find them in such pristine condition today.
To a tired person, any place is a bed. Look at the restful peace on his face as he sleeps, oblivious to his surroundings.
The Rickshaw pullers of Kolkata are unique in that some of them still pull the rickshaw by hand, not cycle rickshaw. This picture has character. The rickshaw puller holds his own space in a parking of cars. Everyone has their own place under the sun.
