Cyclonic Storm ‘Burevi’ Hits South Tamil Nadu And Kerala

Heavy Rain And Storm Expected During Landfall

The cyclonic storm named Burevi is presently centred over Pamban in Tamil Nadu. It will cross the southern coast of Tamil Nadu between Pamban and Kanyakumari during the night of Dec 3. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected over the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Waves will surge to a height of one meter during the landfall (storm moving over the land from the waters) and strong winds reaching the speed of 90 kmph (kilometres per hour). The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert ( a serious kind of weather warning meaning that the weather will cause damage to buildings and roads) to certain parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Fishing activities have also been suspended.
